You Said

The description of the song

This song is  a conversation between a questioning child and God, our Father. The child has many questions about what they’ve experienced and how it seems contrary to God’s promises and their expectations. God makes it clear that He doesn’t need to explain anything since He is God and that His child needs to just trust Him.

My Story

Another major stumbling block I’ve had, besides needing to understand everything was always having questions and expecting God to explain what He was doing. God has to set me straight and explain that He didn’t owe me any explanation and that I should be asking Him what is was He wanted to teach me instead. God is sovereign, He loves me, He is my Teacher and I had to learn to stop questioning Him and to learn to trust Him.

The Lyrics

You Said

(Child)
You said You loved me
When You bore my cross
You said You loved me
When You died
to set me free

So help me understand
Can You please explain
If you love me so much
Then why did You allow
All the pain that afflicted me?

(God:)
I died because I loved
I loved you
I rescued you from sin
I did it then and I’d do it again
I did what only I can do

And yes, it was Your cross
That I carried, it was
Your cross they nailed me to
It could have been you who wore the crown of thorns and your side they pierced
Instead of mine!
But no no
It was me not you
Who died at Calvary
It was Me not you

(Child)
But You said
You had a plan
One that was good
That I had a promised land

So why the wilderness
Why the turbulent waters
Why the flood
Why the fire
They all almost killed me

(God)
These were all necessary
To teach you what you needed to know
Remember I am Teacher, you’re the student
I choose what to use to teach you
And I know what it will take
To perfect you and make you
Like me
That’s the goal, that’s the target
It’s not about your comfort
But about your character and
I don’t mind using pain
If it teaches you to be more like Me
And gives you a Kingdom purpose

(Child)
But I thought…

(God)
No stop… stop right there…
That was your first big mistake…
Who told you to think or to trust your thoughts?

Well!
I’ve been patient and
I’ve been kind, but now I’m shifting this conversation
I am your Father and you
You are my child
So let me get some things straight
Right here, Right now
I am God and I am Sovereign
And I don’t owe you
Any explanations
Not today and not tomorrow
No not one

And this suffering your talking about
Let me ask you
How does it compare to what I did for you?
How does it compare?

I bought you with a costly price
My blood, my tears
My life was spent for you
A price that you could never repay
But I’d never ask for that
You could never ever
Do what I did
No Never

All I ask is that you trust and obey me
And there’s nothing more
You need to do except say…
” Yes, Lord… yes, Lord”
That’s what I long to hear
That’s what I want most from you…

My child,
My love
You have no idea
And will never ever know
How much I love you
How deep My love is
But dive deep ….anyway…
Yes, pursue Me, my love

The deep, and the wide
Of the love I have for you
So
Don’t ask any more questions
Or tell me what I said
Just know that you can trust me
I’ve got you

I said
I’ve got you
